Hello, hello you crazy kiddies. I have a couple of videos to share with all of you today. The first and more boring of the two is a shot of that sad-sack whiner Chris Carabbas filming the music video I told you about yesterday. Blah.

And the second, far more exciting video is of the dancers vs, musicians baseball game that closed out the Lindy Hop Showdown. This video was put together by the amazing Jason Jurzak and Freddie Dickinson, two incredibly talented jazz-babies.

And now…as promised, the perfect dirty gin martini recipe. Trust me, Ida knows what she’s talking about. To start this drink you need a chilled martini glass, which you can achieve by filling one with ice and water and letting it sit while mixing the drink. Next, put ice in your shaker, 6 to 7 cubes, no more. Add 2 1/2 oz. of high quality gin. Ida prefers Bombay Sapphire, but any top-shelf gin will do (except Tanqueray…never EVER Tanqueray). Next add two tbsp. of olive juice. Then stir. I repeat…stir, never shake gin. It bruises easily and can cause the flavor to become muddled instead of multi-layered the way it should. Shaking gin is comparable to putting a bouquet of flowers in a blender and then presenting it to your doll. Bad idea. Now you can empty the martini glass of the ice and water. Take 1 tsp of dry Vermouth (Martini & Rossi is the standard) and swirl it around the martini glass, coating the entire surface, and then toss the excess. Too much vermouth can ruin an otherwise delicious drink. Now strain the gin/olive juice concoction into the martini glass. For an extra treat, stuff some bleu cheese crumbles into some olives and sink them to the bottom of the glass, but DON’T eat them until you have finished the drink and they have had the opportunity to soak up the gin. And that, my loves, is how to make the perfect dirty gin martini. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Hope to see you tonight at DBA for the Cottonmouth Kings. Ida will be sure to be found standing somewhere near the bar with a good view of John Rodli!
